So now I'm going to tell you about the scared and very ancient city of up country "the senkadagala".When every time t travel to kandy, i never forget to go see"bahirawakanda temple".So today i hope to tell you about mysteries mythus about "Bahirawakanda Temple".

Now well see why this called Bahirawakanda.There is a Few kings that rule the kindom Such as King of Wimaladharamasooriya,King of Weeraparakrama , koing of keerthi sri rajasinghe are some them.There is not real time period about this place.But anyway let's talk about Bhirawakanda .
This is the time that human sacrifice began due to survive famine,flood,drought and to live properes..
As the old ones says there is a "Bahirawa" live upon the mountain.When he is get angry with his believers theirs tragic thing happens.For that, to pleased him these human sacrifices are given.
So for this sacrifice villagers find a beautiful vergin in from there village and wash her with milkey sandalwood water in day and night over seven days .And take her to a top of the mountain in front of the "Sri dhalada Maligaya" by a social procession , And tie her up to a tree and let her stay along and let the "Bahirawa" to take her.So that's how these of "Bahirawa Kanda Temple" told among the kandy area.Also there is many other stories behind this place .But this is not the time for that.so let's talk about the evolution about this scared place.
In 1976 villagers started to build a buddhist temple to erase the memories of tragic human sacrifies.It's 88ft tall and for this temple made by under buddhist monks and government supervision.
So the organizing committee had to collect all the funds almost 18 years. Through out all the time even had to go to door and collect funds to the temple.Some times the sold sugar , coconuts,vegetables fr the money.The president at the time Mr J.R Jayawardhana, The Prime Minister Mr. R.Premadasa gave the funds to build the temple. Besides that the rich people around the kandy, they funded to the temple as well.
So when we talk about "budhdha Statue", I need to remind you about the architecture's name as Mr.Albert Wijebandara. Due to his effort and dedication on this temple become a reality.
In 01st of January in 1993 this "bahirawakanda Budhdha statue" opened by late president Mr.R.Preamadasa after all.
When we talk about the "jayasri maha bhodiya " of the "Bahirawakanda Temple", This Bodhiya planted in 1972 by a shoot where taken from the historical Sri maha Bodhi at Budhdhagaya in Anuradhapura , srilanka under Aththaragama Thero's Supervision.So now this scared temple 48 years old.

Also from the left side we can see Beautiful and attractive Kandy Lake , Sri dhalada Maligaya and Kandy City Centre(KCC) Shopping complex.To see this great views, there is a Steps Behind the Statue.So We can Climb to top of the Statue.
